Have you ever wondered how to get that warning message when you log into Dynamics GP that tells the user that this is a TEST company?

If you have the Fabrikam training company, then you will be familiar with the message that tells you that you have logged into the Fabrikam training company, which looks like this:

Fabrikam Test Company Message

That message will happen by default anyway, but when you have a TEST company in Dynamics GP that is a recent copy of your LIVE company, then you want to make it as clear as possible that the company is a TEST company and should not be used for live processing.

To be honest, if you have a test Dynamics GP company, then we have all done some processing in that test Dynamics GP company by mistake, thinking that it was the live company, only to find out later that this was actually not done in the right place, and you have to do it all again!

The test companies are meant to be for trying things out to see what the outcome would be... especially helpful if you have to fix a mess and you are not sure if this would work. Testing this in an environment where no harm can be done is a real comfort.

So, one of the ways that you can tell a Dynamics GP user that they have just logged into a TEST company is to show them a helpful message that clearly states this is a TEST company.

Luckily, this is very simple...if you know how.

There is a little known trigger in Dynamics GP that will automatically show the Test Company Warning message as the user logs into that company.

All you have to do is to change the company name to end with TEST (and include a greater than and less than sign before and after) then this test company warning message will show. It is as simple as that.

Go to the Company Setup window via the following menu path:

Microsoft Dynamics GP >> Tools >> Setup >> Company >> Company

Dynamics GP Company Name Menu path

This will open up the Company Setup window.

In the Company Name field, at the end of the company name, type in a less than character, followed by the word TEST, followed by a greater than sign.

Here is the example shown below, where the TEST word has been entered:

Save the change to the company name to close that window.

When you next log into Dynamics GP, you will see the Test Company Warning Message displayed:
